Egemba Chinonso Fidelis, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, recently shared some insights regarding kitchen sponges. He pointed out that a kitchen sponge can potentially harbor more germs than a toilet seat, offering a perspective on kitchen hygiene that many may not have considered.

Aproko Doctor explained that kitchen sponges, due to their infrequent replacement, tend to accumulate a significant amount of germs over time. These sponges have small pores that easily trap food particles, creating ideal conditions for bacteria to thrive. Consequently, they become breeding grounds for various harmful microorganisms.

To address this issue, Aproko Doctor emphasized the importance of regularly replacing kitchen sponges, especially for those who have been using the same sponge for an extended period. By doing so, you can maintain a cleaner and healthier kitchen environment, reducing the risk of contamination and foodborne illnesses.

Additionally, he suggested using bleach to disinfect sponges if replacing them isn’t immediately feasible, providing a cost-effective way to maintain better kitchen hygiene.

He suggested that they use their microwave to help eliminate the bacteria as well.
