Fola Francis, a transgender model from Nigeria, passed away.
On December 20, 2023, Fola drowned at Lagos’ IIashe Beach, bringing her death.
Freelance writer Vincent Desmond revealed her passing in a statement on Friday, December 22.
Desmond says that a memorial service for Fola will take place at a later time.
He called the deceased a shining example of kindness and pleaded with the public to allow Fola’s family and friend some space to grieve.
“We are deeply hurt by Fola Francis’s passing. She was a beacon of hope and a light to us and many other people,” he said.
“Her family and friends request privacy at this time. There will be a memorial that will be discussed at a later date.” He continued
The fashion designer was well known for her outspoken support of the LGBT community and for standing up for homosexuals.
She was the centre of attention in 2022 when she made history as the first transgender person in Nigeria to walk the runway at Lagos Fashion Week for Cute-Saint and Fruché.
