A Nigerian father with genotype AA questioned the paternity of his son, which led him to file a paternity suit in court. Appearing before Justice Funmi Asaolu, the man said he felt compelled to verify his son Teri Oluwa’s paternity after the child was diagnosed with sickle cell disease (SS genotype).

He noted that his wife has the AS genotype but, as a non-carrier of the sickle cell trait, it was impossible for their child to have the SS genotype. The heartbroken father said he repeated genotype tests at different hospitals but all results confirmed SS.

Hoping to learn the truth, he took his wife to court for DNA testing. Justice Asaolu revealed the test results, which showed 0% paternity between the man and son, deepening his heartbreak. The wife maintained the child belongs to her husband when given a chance to share her side.
