Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O Kanayo has stirred mixed reactions on social media, as he claims that he is older than Pete Edochie in the Nollywood movie industry.

During a recent conversation on Afia TV, Kanayo O Kanayo made a passionate statement asserting that individuals of his stature, including Pete Edochie and others, deserve recognition in the rich history of Nollywood.

Diving into the archives, the 61-year-old actor strongly emphasized the groundbreaking accomplishments of legendary filmmaker Kenneth Nnebue in the 1990s, stressing Nnebue’s crucial role as the pioneer who professionally produced home videos in 1992.

Elaborating on his argument, Kanayo pointed out that he and fellow actors who graced the screens in the 1992/93 Nigerian two-part drama thriller film, “Living in Bondage,” were among the trailblazers who entered Nollywood as true professionals ahead of others.

Kanayo firmly argued that the renowned 1971 Nigerian movie, “Things Fall Apart,” featuring the esteemed Pete Edochie, was indeed a cinematic project and not a home video production.

The iconic actor asserted that if anyone, including his colleagues, suggests that Pete Edochie preceded him in laying the foundation for Nollywood, he is ready to challenge such a notion.

Kanayo clarified that while Pete may have embarked on his cinematic journey before him, Edochie officially joined Nollywood four years after he did, emphasizing that this distinction is not based on biological age.

He confidently asserted that, within the realm of Nollywood, he holds seniority over Pete Edochie.
