In a recent announcement, the well-known Nigerian musician, Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, expressed his desire to collaborate on music with the wealthy American rapper, Kanye West.

Asake, in an interview with Billboard News, revealed his hope that God would make this collaboration a reality.

This announcement follows Asake’s remarkable achievement of putting Nigeria and Afrobeat culture in the global spotlight. He achieved this by selling out the 20,000-seat O2 Arena and winning two awards at the 16th Headies Award.

In the interview, Asake, the artist behind “Lonely At The Top,” shared his approach to collaborating with other artists. He emphasized the importance of having a genuine connection with the people he works with. According to him, it’s not just about the music; he needs to feel a real connection and energy between himself and the artist, which makes the creative process smoother.

Asake explained, “For me, I have to genuinely like the person before I can create music with them. I need that comfort and connection, not just for the music itself. I’m not saying I can’t collaborate with others, but I thrive on authentic energy. If there’s a genuine liking and connection beyond the music, that’s ideal. It’s all about synergy. I’ve been saying this for a while; maybe it will happen. I’d love to collaborate with Kanye West.”

Regarding the global expansion of the Afrobeat genre, he likened it to watching your child grow. It’s a gratifying feeling to see something you’re a part of gaining recognition and flourishing.
