Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, expressed her frustration on social media towards the organizers of the prestigious Headies Award. This comes despite her recent victory in the category of Best Female Artiste of the Year at the highly anticipated 16th Headies Award, which took place on September 3rd, 2023, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ayra Starr had a big win at the 2023 Headies Award, triumphing over other talented artists like Tems, Simi, and Tiwa Savage in the Best Female Artiste of the Year category.
Ayra Starr couldn’t make it to the Headies Award ceremony because she’s currently touring North America. Due to her absence, they didn’t even announce, let alone present, the award for Best Female Artiste of the Year on stage.
In response to this, Ayra Starr expressed her strong dissatisfaction with the way the Headies handled the situation. She made it clear that she wasn’t pleased with their actions, and she wouldn’t be showing any gratitude for it. She also asserted that she won’t accept anything less than what she believes she deserves.
In her words, she said;
“I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage ! Best female artist na beans ? We work hard, every single one of us ! I’ve seen Tiwa record 4 hit songs in the same night , Tems breaths and lives for music , we didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria , you didn’t raise me to settle for less.”
See her post below;
@therealdaddymo1: She didn’t stutter. She said what she said. Female artists have put in solid work too and have invested their time and energy into their craft. These award organizers should stop with the disrespect and celebrate them accordingly.
@Gerald_yea: I know you are angry, but maybe if you stopped dressing the way you do you’ll be considered for more awards. Work on your voice too .
@R0VIEL: I agree with you.
@DJDaley: I agree with you, that award should have announced and presented on stage and not backstage, after all we are all fighting for equality these days! All artistes should be accorded the same respect regardless of gender. Keep up the great work and wishing you all the best.
@Views09: Tiwa has said this year after year!! i’m glad Ayra is saying it too. The disrespect is just too much. They announced some people who didn’t bother to show up on stage but not Best Female Artist..drag them..go ayra!
@ibk_adeniyi: You want Abi uno want .
