Bobrisky, a social media influencer known for presenting as a woman through dress and several medical procedures, has faced criticism over their gender identity. While claiming to have undergone various surgeries to transition, Bobrisky has at times stated a desire to become pregnant.

In 2019, when police in Rivers State declared Bobrisky a wanted criminal suspect, photos of the individual dressed in feminine attire circulated widely online, reigniting public debates around their gender expression and status.

Reacting in an Instagram post, he had said, “So, a notorious criminal in Rivers state is bearing my stage name, Bobrisky. Thank God I have turned to a woman before the useless criminal committed the crimes. If not, I would have become a suspect by now. And why are bloggers placing my picture together with Governor Nyesom Wike’s. Please, it is not my Bobrisky he is looking for o. I have turned to a woman since two years ago.”

While typically presenting femininely, the social media personality has at times been seen dressing masculinely. Last year, when attending their father’s funeral in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, Bobrisky dressed in more masculine attire.

In a widely shared video from the funeral, the visibly uneasy individual avoided facing the camera directly. Dressed in all black with a headscarf and sunglasses partially obscuring their face, Bobrisky appeared ill at ease whenever the camera panned in their direction. The clip depicted their evident discomfort with being filmed during this period of masculine presentation.

However, before he was handed a 6-month jail term on Friday, Justice Abimbola Awogboro asked the convict of his sex, and he quickly replied, “I am a man, My Lord.”

The judge subsequently sentenced them to jail time, ruling that the term would commence retroactively from March 24, 2024, the date of their arrest.

It will be recalled that on April 5, 2024, the court had rendered a guilty verdict after they pleaded guilty to four counts of currency abuse filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), relating to an incident on March 24, 2024.
