The well-known Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, who goes by the stage name Rema, recently shared the names of four artists who inspired him to pursue a music career. Rema, who has now joined Wizkid in the exclusive club of African artists with over 1 billion streams on Spotify, made this revelation in an interview with Hip TV.
In the interview, Rema mentioned that his musical inspirations included Wizkid, Burna Boy, and the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. Notably, he didn’t mention Davido as one of his influences.
He also shared that among the international artists who inspired him, American billionaire rapper Kanye West stood out. Rema explained that it was Wizkid’s lifestyle, Burna Boy’s life journey, and Kanye West’s creativity that served as his sources of motivation to pursue a music career.
He further expressed his intention to maintain consistency by staying true to his originality and uniqueness.
In his words, he said:
“I’m inspired by Burna [Boy] because of his story. Fela [Kuti] inspires me. Kanye West [inspires me] because of how far he goes in terms of his creativity, and production I really like Wiz [kid] because of how he carries himself.”
