Popular Nigerian musician, Rema, has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his O2 Arena concert in London.

Attendees and online viewers raised concerns, alleging that Rema was engaging in devil worship, with some labeling him a Satanist or Illuminati member. The speculation stemmed from Rema’s use of a mask, a bat, a burning skeleton, and a mystical horse with red eyes during his performance.

A fan from Benin City defended Rema, explaining that the mask was a representation of Queen Idia, a national hero in the Benin Kingdom.

Rema responded to the accusations, clarifying that the mask is a remake of a bronze representing his ancestors, some of which are housed in a London museum. In his view, this artistic choice is a way of redefining the Edo state and gaining global recognition.

In his words;

RAVAGE UPRISING/ My Ancestors bronzes sit in the museum of this very city so I remade mine. Hence, Edo is redefined, the map reshaped, your minds awakened & the mask reborn. Thank you London! 🦇🇬🇧”
